Seminar on “Toward a Bipolar Trading Order? China vs. the US”

 

Are China and the US now at loggerheads and are we on the verge of a trade war? Are there now two distinct competing visions of a new global economic order? To help answer these questions, the Singapore APEC Study Centre at ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute invited Professor Vinod K Aggarwal (Professor of Political Science, Affiliated Professor in the Haas School of Business) who shared some riveting insights on the subject.

Conference on “Malaysia’s GE14: High Expectations, Heated Contests, Huge Stakes”

 

Malaysians go to the ballot box on 9 May 2018 for the country’s 14th General Elections (GE14). In order to better understand some of the political trends and electoral dynamics in the run-up to polling day throughout the country, the Malaysia Studies Programme of ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute organised a public conference on the subject.

 

 

Seminar on “The Strong Body Canon: The Art of the People’s Party after Thailand’s 1932 Revolution”

 

In this installment of the Politics of the Art in Southeast Asia seminar series, Dr Thanavi Chotpradit, from Silpakorn University, presented a paper titled “The Strong Body Canon: The Art of the People’s Party after Thailand’s 1932 Revolution”. More than twenty participants attended, including those from local universities and art institutions.

Dr Show Ying Ruo, Visiting Fellow at Nalanda-Sriwijaya Centre, ISEAS, delivered her NSC Lecture on “Demystifying Chinese Vegetarian Halls: The Esoteric Tradition of Sino-Southeast Asian Religion”.

Conference on “The Indonesian Economy under Jokowi: A New Development Model?”

 

Four years into his presidency, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has arguably made significant political and economic progress in Indonesia. To examine the current state of the country’s achievements, potential growth challenges and the related implications for Jokowi’s electability in 2019, the ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute (ISEAS) invited a group of leading international scholars to make presentations on various major aspects of Indonesian development issues.
