Statistics updates on selected key indicators about ASEAN and its Member States.

Asian Development Bank Statistical Database
The database contains data on balance of payments, external debt, government finance, labor force, money and interest rates, national accounts, prices, population, social indicators, and trade.

CEIC Data Manager(Onsite access for ISEAS researchers)
CEIC provides granular country-level plus region and state level information on several macroeconomic sectors, such as inflation, exports, tourism and more. Detailed methodological references at indicator, dataset, sector, and country levels are also available.

EIU CountryData (Contact Library for offsite access)
It provides immediate access to headline economic indicators and forecasts vital to economic, financial, and budget models. It also provides hard-edged analysis of a country’s economic health and prospects.

Ministry of Hotels & Tourism Myanmar 
Tourism statistics feature fast facts about Myanmar, licenced tour companies and transportation, star-rated hotels, investments and much more. 

Myanmar Statistical Information Service
The Myanmar Information System is a web-based national database of statistics about Myanmar developed by the Central Statistical Organization.

Myanmar Information Management Unit
The Myanmar Information Management Unit, or MIMU, provides information management services to strengthen analysis and decision-making of the humanitarian and development community in Myanmar. It maintains a common data and information repository with data from various sources on all sectors, countrywide, at the lowest administrative unit for which it is available.

OpenDevelopment Mekong
Open data site for greater Mekong region, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam.

UN ComtradeUN Comtrade is a repository of official international trade statistics and relevant analytical tables.

World Bank Open Data  
Open access to external debt and financial flow data that report public and publicly-guaranteed debt to the World Bank’s Debtor Reporting System. Online Resources

Fragile Palm Leaves Digitisation Initiative
Buddhist Digital Resource Center (BDRC) digitised and catalogued 300 Pali and vernacular manuscripts in Burmese script held by Fragile Palm Leaves Foundation. The majority of the materials digitised date from the 18th or 19th century. The texts cover a variety of topics, including law, poetry, stories of the Buddha, grammar and religious rituals.

Myanmar Manuscript Digital Library (MMDL)
This archive, hosted by the University of Toronto and supported by Robarts Library, aims at bringing together and making manuscripts and rare print editions available online from individual libraries throughout Myanmar. It is the platform for an ongoing digitizing project, initiated and conducted by William Pruitt and an international team of Myanmar and Pali scholars, and supported, since 2012, by the Pali Text Society, as well as by Yumi Ousaka of the Sendai National College of Technology, the KDDI Foundation, the Mitsubishi Foundation, the CARI Foundation, and JSPS Kakenhi.

Southeast Asia Digital Library (SEADL): Burma
Contains digital facsimiles of books and manuscripts, as well as multimedia materials and searchable indexes of additional Southeast Asian resources. Nations represented in the collection include Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Jawi Transliteration Project  
Jawi Transliteration Project is a Jawi printed text newspaper archive consisting of 2,000 Jawi-script newspaper and magazine articles published between 1930-1941 in the Straits Settlements and the Malay Peninsula, transliterated into romanised Malay, and presented in a fully searchable format.

Malay Concordance Project
The project aims to help scholars share resources for the study of classical Malay literature.  Its main feature is a growing corpus of classical Malay texts, now comprising 165 texts and 5.8 million words, including 140,000 verses.

Overview

 

The Library holds a unique collection of Southeast Asian-related materials in economics, international relations, politics, social and cultural studies. With more than 700,000 items in English and Southeast Asian languages, the physical collection comprises books, journals, maps, microforms and photographs among other formats.

Private Papers

The private papers collection provides a historical perspective on the social and political events of 20th century Southeast Asia, and comprises the donated materials of more than 30 prominent individuals like David Marshall and Tan Cheng Lock. Antiquarian Books

The Library’s collection of rare and antiquarian books on the region date between 1585 to 1930.  Most have been converted into microform or digitised to facilitate easier access. The list of titles is available here on the SEALion catalogue.

Audio Visual Recordings

The audio-visual recordings consist largely of folk tales (via storytelling), documentaries, docudramas, and feature films.

Journals, Newspapers and Statistics

The Library subscribes to a number of print and electronic resources to support research needs. It provides access to more than 10,000 electronic resources, including full text journal articles. A resource listing can be found on this page.

The newspaper collection includes contemporary and historical newspapers in print, digital, and microform formats. For more information, please refer to the Microform Collection.

The statistics collection covers trade data, population data, household and housing data, etc. in Southeast Asian countries.

Maps and Atlases

The Library’s map collection is a unique collection of Southeast Asian cartographic materials. It consists of approximately 1,200 titles from 1768 onwards.

Oral History Interviews

ISEAS’ oral history project was first initiated in 1973 to generate primary source materials for scholarly use. The first interviews focused on local experiences of the Japanese Occupation and Singapore in the immediate post-war period and later expanded to include prominent personalities in Southeast Asian business, education, and politics. A notable part of the collection includes the oral histories of over a dozen generals and high-ranking policymakers on Myanmar’s post-independence political development and their involvement in various aspects of social and political development of post-war Myanmar in the 20th century.
