“Understanding Trauma the Key to Defeating ISIS”: Dr Aref Ali Nayed

As part of the Regional Social and Cultural Studies, ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute organised a seminar on “Extremism, Trauma and Therapy: Addressing the Rise of ISIS in the Middle East” on Monday, 28 March 2016.

The seminar was delivered by Dr Aref Ali Nayed, Ambassador of Libya to the United Arab Emirates.

Dr Nayed, who is also the Founder and Director of Kalam Research & Media (KRM), touched on three notions of trauma — originating, utilisations and weaponisation and the associated therapy in dealing with the ISIS in the Middle East during the 1.5-hour seminar, attended by over 40 participants.
