Media Release: ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute’s Journals ranked highly by SCImago Journal and Country Rank (SJR) in 2019

25 June 2020, Singapore –  Contemporary Southeast Asia (CSEA), The Journal of Southeast Asian Economies (JSEAE) and Sojourn, the three key academic journals published by the ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute, were ranked highly in terms of influence in their respective categories in the SCImago Journal and Country Rank (SJR) journal rankings for 2019.

The SCImago measures the influence of scholarly journals based on the number of citations received by a journal and the importance or prestige of the journals the citations come from over the period 2016-2019. All journals in SJR ranking are indexed in Elsevier’s Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature.

Among academic journals published in the Asiatic region:

In the category of Social Sciences – History, CSEA ranked first out of 27 journals.

In the category of Social Sciences – Political Science and International Relations, CSEA ranked first and JSEAE fourth out of 24 journals.

In the category of Social Sciences – Anthropology, Sojourn ranked second out of 14 journals.

In the category of Economics, Econometrics and Finance, JSEAE ranked 17th out of 67 journals.

In the broader category of Arts and Humanities, CSEA ranked 33rd out of 114 journals.

Looking at academic journals published in Singapore specifically:

In the category of Social Sciences, all three journals were ranked in the top ten, with CSEA in second position, JSEAE in seventh and Sojourn in eighth place.

In the category of Arts and Humanities, CSEA was ranked in first place.

In the category of Economics, Econometrics and Finance, JSEAE was ranked ninth.

In the category of Social Sciences – Anthropology, Sojourn was ranked in first place.
