Seminar on China’s Asia Strategy: Opportunities and Challenges

This 1.5-hour seminar discussed there is an imperative for prudence which should be met by China’s future efforts in the One Belt One Road and similar “strategic economic”’ projects, as demonstrated by the practices of the “strategic military” approach, so as to prevent strategic overreach.

Tuesday, 20 September 2016 – Professor Shi Yinhong from China gave a seminar at ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute on “China’s Asia Strategy: Opportunities and Challenges”. Professor Shi is Professor of International Relations and Director of the Center on American Studies at Renmin University of China in Beijing and a Counsellor of the State Council of People’s Republic of China.

In his presentation Professor Shi set out the current geo-political strategy of President Xi Jinping’s China, the factors driving it, and the opportunities and challenges the strategy faces. There was lively discussion after the presentation.
