Following a robust post-pandemic recovery in 2022, with the GDP rebounding at 8%, the Vietnamese economy has encountered significant challenges both domestically and globally in 2023. As a result, with the estimated GDP growth rate of only 5.1%, Vietnam has been unable to meet the 2023 annual growth target of 6.5% set by the National Assembly.
What factors have contributed to the slowdown of the Vietnamese economy in 2023? How has the Vietnamese government responded to these issues, and will they continue to hinder the country’s economic performance in 2024? This webinar aims to provide a thorough and comprehensive analysis of these pressing questions. It will also examine the prospects for the Vietnamese economy in 2024, as well as the opportunities and potential challenges that investors should be aware of.
About the Speakers
Luc Can is Chief Economist at the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) and serves as President of the BIDV Training and Research Institute. He is also a Member of the National Fiscal and Monetary Policy Advisory Council and a Member of the Vietnam National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation. Luc holds an MBA and a PhD in Business Administration from Monash University, Australia, both by Australian government scholarships. He was also a Humphrey Fellow and a Senior Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, from 2007 to 2009.
Tuan Ho is Senior Lecturer at the School of Accounting and Finance of the University of Bristol (United Kingdom) and a former Visiting Fellow at the Vietnam Studies Programme of the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute. He is also a member of the Board of Advisors of the Vietnam Wealth Advisers (VWA) and the Director of the Masters in Accounting and Finance Programme at the University of Bristol. Tuan’s main research interests include investment analysis, financial markets, and economic development of ASEAN countries. His research has been published in reputable academic journals. Before joining the academia, Tuan was Chief Economist and Senior Analyst at Rong Viet Securities Company.
