The 19th ASEAN LECTURE – Thailand’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2019: Advancing Partnership for Sustainability

ASEAN LECTURE SERIES

About the Lecture
The current global political economy presents a complex set of policy decisions for governments around the world. Increasing competition between major powers and a rising tide of nationalism and trade protectionism throughout the world has caused instability and uncertainty within the Asia-Pacific. In addition, policy-makers must also contend with how states and markets are being shaped and influenced by the future and the evolution of the global information economy. The 19th ASEAN Lecture by His Excellency Arthayudh Srisamoot, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Thailand, elaborates on Thailand’s theme for ASEAN Chairmanship – “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability”. The theme reflects the challenges ASEAN faces at present, the goals ASEAN aims for, and the direction ASEAN should take to move towards the future while making use of our strengths. The lecture will identify strategic priorities for ASEAN in 2019, opportunities and challenges which ASEAN must take advantage of and address accordingly, as well as the most viable direction in enhancing ASEAN’s strategic value-added.
