Shaping More Resilient Indonesia-Singapore Relations Amidst Global Uncertainties

INDONESIA STUDIES PROGRAMME WEBINAR

About the Webinar

Indonesia and Singapore recently signed three important treaties – a Flight Information Region (FIR) agreement, a Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA), and an extradition treaty – during the leaders’ meeting in Bintan, Riau Islands Province. The signing of these treaties is the culmination of more than a decade of diplomacy and negotiations. Both countries have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and regional security given an increasing security challenge in the region, such as the South China Sea dispute. This development also opens a new era of Indonesia-Singapore relations, paving the way for closer collaboration in many fields: legal, economic, education and defence. While economic ties will still be the cornerstone of Indonesia-Singapore relations, defence and security will gradually become more critical for the two countries. This webinar will review major initiatives for strengthening Indonesia-Singapore relations on multiple fronts, delving into the challenges and opportunities for the two close neighbours amidst increasing global uncertainties.
