Malaysia and UMNO following the 14th General Elections

MALAYSIA STUDIES PROGRAMME
Malaysia in Transition Seminar Series

About the Seminar

Drawing on his experience in politics and as UMNO Deputy Youth Chief, Shahril will first share his opinions on the overall state of Malaysian politics following the 2018 general elections. This includes: an analysis of Pakatan Harapan’s track record of fulfilling campaign promises outlined in Buku Harapan; the stability and viability of the Pakatan Harapan coalition; and the planned succession of the prime ministership from Mahathir Mohamad onwards.

From there, Shahril will discuss the key challenges facing UMNO as a party. This includes the party’s organizational structure; the presidential elections last year; and UMNO’s strategies for rebuilding its brand name. He will then look at UMNO’s relationship with other Barisan Nasional members, and the recently concluded cooperation pact with PAS.

Shahril will end by looking forward and discussing the key challenges facing Malaysia as a nation.
