About the Webinar

Responding to the new wave of industrial revolution, the Industry 4.0, governments around the world have had prioritized and designed national flagship policies to embrace these new technologies. The webinar examines the Malaysian government’s efforts towards embracing Industry 4.0. First, the webinar provides a broad perspective of the progress of industrialization in Malaysia. And specifically, within this backdrop, the webinar critically discusses the Industry 4WRD:  National Policy on Industry 4.0 in terms of policy design, funding approach, strategy, technology focus, implementation and institutional setting. It further critically assesses the policy instruments used by the government to intensify the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies and the potential challenges in doing so. The webinar concludes with the way forward.

About the Speaker

VGR Chandran Govindaraju is currently Associate Professor of Industrial Development at the Department of Development Studies, Faculty of Economics and Administration, University of Malaya. Dr Chandran previously worked as Principal Analyst with Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), Prime Minister’s Department, Malaysia. He holds a PhD in Economics and his research interests include innovation, technology development, global value chain, trade and globalization.
