About the Survey and Webinar

Two years into the Covid-19 pandemic, Southeast Asia continues to face unprecedented challenges and great uncertainty while the geo-economic and geo-strategic spheres of influence in the region and beyond are undergoing fundamental shifts. What are their implications and what can or should the region’s response to these new dynamics be?

Against this backdrop, the ASEAN Studies Centre at the ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute conducted the fourth edition of ‘‘The State of Southeast Asia 2022” survey to seek the views of Southeast Asian opinion leaders on regional affairs. The survey canvassed the views of 1,677 respondents from the policy, research, business, civil society, and media communities. Among the questions explored in this edition are the top challenges facing Southeast Asia; the Covid-19 pandemic; the Myanmar crisis; views of the Quad and AUKUS; levels of trust regarding the major powers; ASEAN’s role and relevance; the CPTPP; the US-China rivalry and its impact on Southeast Asia, and soft power. The E-launch event will present key survey findings, which will be highlighted for discussion and analysis, by a distinguished panel of discussants.
