Analysing the 2024 Indonesian Elections Results and Post-Election Coalition Dynamics

INDONESIA STUDIES PROGRAMME

About the Webinar

Indonesia had conducted the 2024 General Elections through a politically stable process. However, there are some concerns raised regarding the legitimacy of the election outcomes due to various irregularities in the electoral process. The losing coalition parties are now trying to exercise their right to query the outcome in parliament. This seminar will begin by analysing exit polls and quick count data to elucidate the factors that contributed to the apparent overwhelming triumph of Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the presidential-vice presidential race. If unchallenged, the single-round election will expedite the process of forming a new government and ruling coalition. What remains to be determined are the potential role that Joko Widodo will have in a future Prabowo administration, as well as the implications of the election outcomes for Indonesia’s political future.
