Besides new publications, ISEAS Library has received donations of personal libraries by researchers and prominent personalities, often as part of their larger private papers donations.
At 334 years and counting, Description historique du royaume de Macaçar is one of the oldest items in the ISEAS Library collection. The volume presents a detailed description of particular aspects of the geography, history, and customs of Makassar in the 17th century.

In a career spanning more than 30 years, Made Wijaya compiled a photographic archive of architectures and tropical gardens in Bali and beyond. ISEAS Library is fortunate to be the home of his collection of some 40,000 photographs.
Tan Chin Tuan’s banking activities and his philanthropy are captured in his private papers which are deposited at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute. The collection, known as the Tan Chin Tuan Private papers, is a sizeable one with nearly 54,000 pages of documents in 727 folios.
On 22 July 2022, ISEAS Library was honoured by a visit from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, Sultan and Sovereign Ruler of the State and Territories of Johor Darul Ta’zim, and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, Permaisuri of Johor.
