Yanuar Nugroho was Deputy Chief of Staff (2015-2019) to the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. Previously he was Director and Expert Adviser to the Head of the Indonesian President’s Delivery Unit for Development Monitoring and Oversight (2012-14). Yanuar co-founded and advises the Centre for Innovation Policy and Governance in Jakarta. He is an Honorary Fellow with the University of Manchester and currently sits on the reviewer committees for the UK’s Newton Fund as well as Indonesia’s Endowment Fund for Education. He was recently elected as a member of the Indonesian Academy of Sciences. Yanuar’s research interests revolve around innovation and social change, innovation for development, sustainability, civil society, and knowledge dynamics. He spends most of his time bringing research closer to policy through the promotion of evidence-based policymaking processes to the Government of Indonesia. Yanuar enjoys travelling and playing the pipe organ.
