Saturday, 7 November 2015 – This morning, President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China delivered the 36th Singapore Lecture at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore.

The Lecture, chaired by DPM Teo Chee Hean, was entitled “Forging a Strong Partnership to Enhance Prosperity of Asia”.
President Xi acknowledged the important roles played by the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew with the late Mr Deng Xiaoping in laying the foundations for close Singapore-China relations. He shared his vision of the future development of China, and how this development can be beneficial for both China and Asia, and the world.

The Lecture was attended by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong; cabinet ministers including Mr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Foreign Affairs; Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Finance; Mr Ng Chee Meng, Acting Minister for Education (Schools) & Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport; Mrs Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Ministry of Transport; and the Chinese delegation including Mr Wang Huning, Member of the Political Bureau of the CCCPC; Mr Li Zhanshu, Member of the Political Bureau of the CCCPC; Mr Yang Jiechi, State Councillor; Mr Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs; ambassadors; senior government officials; business leaders; academics; students and members of the media.

Past speakers of the Singapore Lecture include Dr Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Prime Minister Dr Jan Peter Balkenende of the Netherlands, Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan.
