About the Seminar

As Indonesia’s largest Islamic organisation, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) has a strong influence in the country’s politics. Besides already having a record number of members in cabinet, NU would probably have more control in the government, especially after President Joko Widodo appointed Ma’ruf Amin as his running mate in the 2019 Presidential Election. Arguably, the current political situation similar to Indonesia under President Abdurrahman Wahid. This seminar examines how the involvement of NU in politics affects its activities in education, pesantren and other educational institutions? It discusses how important is the alliance of NU and the government in shaping Islam in Indonesia. And how the NU accommodates and collaborates with other Islamic component in the country after they become an integral part of the government.
