American Foreign Policy and Southeast Asia’s Place in it

About the Seminar

The speaker spent a month in Washington DC in April-May 2019 interviewing scholars in think tanks, former officials and others on American foreign policy.  His seminar presentation will be based largely on these interviews.  He will explain the change in the US attitude to China in recent years which culminated in the declaration of China as a revisionist power in the strategy documents of the Trump era; the present mood in the US Administration and Congress on relations with China; President Trump’s role; different views on how the push-back against China should take place; and Southeast Asia’s place in US foreign policy.
