MALAYSIA STUDIES PROGRAMME SEMINAR
About the Seminar
Malaysia’s National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) was established in 1997 through an Act of Parliament. In its Act, PTPTN’s roles are defined as issuing loans for students to continue their higher education, collecting loan repayments, managing an education savings scheme, and to undertake any other roles as instructed by the Government. Over the years, in fulfilling its mandate, PTPTN has focused on only one of their stated purposes, namely to issue loans to students. This resulted a high loan approval rate, while repayment rate is less than 50 percent. In this seminar, Wan Saiful will elaborate further on the challenges faced by PTPTN and share lessons that can be learned by other countries.
