About the Roundtable

ASEAN Leaders met on 24 April 2021 in Jakarta to discuss on the recent developments in Myanmar, which resulted in the ”Five-Point Consensus” attached to the Chairman’s Statement as ASEAN’s response to the political and humanitarian crisis in Myanmar. While the Leaders’ meeting is testament to the grouping’s role and relevance to regional affairs, the road ahead is a long and difficult one for Myanmar and its people. This online roundtable will discuss how ASEAN can operationalise the ‘‘Five-Point Consensus’’, especially in engaging with different stakeholders in Myanmar and rallying the support of the international community. The roundtable will also offer lessons learned from past experiences of engagement with Myanmar that could be instructive for ASEAN in its upcoming critical undertaking.
