ISEAS Renaming Ceremony: ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute

 

On 12 August 2015, Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education launched the Institute’s new name – ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute. Puan Noor Aishah, wife of Encik Yusof Ishak was ISEAS’ Special Guest.

 

Thailand Forum 2015: Society in Transition

 

ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute organised the two-day forum – Thailand Forum 2015: Society in Transition from 27 to 28 July 2015.
 
The two-day forum focused on the developments in Thai politics, society, culture and the economy and their medium- and long-term implications; highlighted the current challenges and prospects in Thailand; and alerted stakeholders and interested parties to issues and areas likely to merit attention in the years ahead.
 
The Forum was attended by over 90 participants, which included members of academia, the business and finance community, diplomatic community, policymakers, civil servants and those interested in the political and socio-economic developments of Thailand.

 

Seminar: Will the 11th Malaysia Plan Transform Malaysia into a Developed Country by 2020?

 

 

ISEAS organised the seminar titled, “Will the 11th Malaysia Plan Transform Malaysia into a Developed Country by 2020?” on Thursday, 23 July 2015.  

The seminar featured two prominent Malaysian economists, Dr Yeah Kim Leng, Dean, School of Business, Malaysia University of Science and Technology and Dr Muhammed Abdul Khalid, Director of Research, Khazanah Research Institute, who provided critical analyses of the Eleventh Malaysian Plan.

 

The 35th Singapore Lecture by The Hon Tony Abbott MP, Prime Minister of Australia

 

ISEAS organized the 35th Singapore Lecture, delivered by The Hon Tony Abbott MP, Prime Minister of Australia at the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore on Monday, 29 June 2015.

The Lecture entitled “Our Common Challenges: Strengthening Security in the Region” was held under the distinguished Chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Teo Chee Hean.

 

 

Singapore APEC Study Centre Seminar: Growth in a Challenging and Diverse Landscape: Asia and the Pacific

 

ISEAS and the Singapore APEC Study Centre organised a seminar on “Growth in a Challenging and Diverse Landscape: Asia and the Pacific” on Thursday, 18 June 2015.
 
Dr Allan Bollard, Executive Director, APEC Secretariat Singapore; Mr Eduardo Pedrosa, Secretary General, PECC International Secretariat and Dr Denis Hew, Director, APEC Policy Support (PSU), APEC Secretariat Singapore; discussed factors that would affect global and regional growth in the year ahead.

 

The Indonesia Forum 2015

 

The Institute of Southeast Asian Studies and the University of Michigan co-organised the one-day forum – Indonesia Forum 2015: New Government, New Vision, New Opportunities on Friday, 15 May 2015 at the Mandarin Orchard Hotel Singapore. The Indonesia Forum marks the first time that two leading institutions with extensive research and networks in Southeast Asia are working together.  

Professor Dr Ir Indroyono Soesilo, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Republic of Indonesia and University of Michigan alumnus, delivered the keynote address on “Maritime Development in Indonesia: New Opportunities and Challenges” where he outlined the maritime issues facing Indonesia, and the policies being put into place to address these challenges.

 

ISEAS Confers Distinguished Honorary Fellow Award on His Excellency Prof Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia

 

On Friday, 10 April 2015, ISEAS conferred its Distinguished Honorary Fellow Award on His Excellency Prof Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia.

The award is in recognition of his outstanding and distinguished leadership as the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia; significant contributions to regional and global leadership; and his role in strengthening ties between Indonesia, Singapore and ISEAS.
