Researcher’s Profile

Yatun Sastramidjaja is Lecturer in Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam, and is currently Visiting Fellow with the Regional Strategic and Political Studies Programme at the ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute.

 

Current Research

Yatun Sastramidjaja’s current research investigates the complex relationship between digital technologies and democracy processes in Southeast Asia, specifically from the perspective of multi-mediated youth activism. At ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute she conducts a comparative research project on “Viral Citizenship: Digitised Youth Activism and Reconfigurations of Democratic Citizenship in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore”. Her subsequent research project (supported by the Anticipation Grant Indonesia-The Netherlands from the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences) will be on the topic of “Cyber Troops and Public Opinion Manipulation in Indonesia”. In addition, she conducts ongoing research on student and youth activism in Indonesia and other countries in Asia, following up on her PhD research on student movements in Indonesia.
