Regional
OutlookRegional Outlook was launched by ISEAS in 1992. This annual is published
every year, in January. Designed for the busy executive, professional, diplomat,
journalist or interested observer under severe time constraints, this annual
aims to provide a succinct analysis of current political and economic trends in
the ten countries of Southeast Asia, and the outlook for the prospective two
years.
An analysis
such as this serves best when it indicates patterns of development, offers some
insight into the unfolding of complex dynamics, and puts its finger on emerging
issues and areas of change. In this way, Regional Outlook should provide the
necessary background for the reader to interpret new information and data.
The annual is broadly divided into two parts. The first part focuses on
political developments in the Southeast Asian region, analysed on a country by
country basis. The second part focuses on economic developments, also on a
country by country basis. The economic analysis is supported by data tables,
providing 'headline' economic data for each of the ten countries, and provides
forecasts for the two years ahead. In addition, each year the annual focuses on
a small number of key issues or themes that are of contemporary interest.
