The Regional Strategic and Political Studies (RSPS) programme seeks to address strategic issues within and affecting the Southeast Asian region (and the wider Asia-Pacific), and to understand the dynamics of political change within the regional states.

Projects and Activities

The programme has undertaken several major projects over the years, including work on government and politics in Southeast Asia; challenges facing Singapore in the new millennium; and, ASEAN-India relations.  Individual researchers in the RSPS programme also have their own research projects covering the gamut of regional political and security issues.

The annual highlight of RSPS’ research work is the Forum on Regional Political and Strategic Developments, which is held in the middle of each year to analyze significant trends in political and strategic developments in the region.  The forum, which showcases RSPS’ research expertise, draws an audience of more than 200 from the public and private sectors, as well as the diplomatic corps.  The last forum was held on 25 July 2001 and drew an audience of 400: apart from RSPS researchers, the forum featured two keynote speakers, former Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Musa Hitam, and former Thai Foreign Minister, Surin Pitsuwan.
