On 20 & 21 March 2013, Mrs Cheryl Yap (Head, Archives & Museum), Ms Mary Wang (Admin supervisor for the Archives & Museum) and Mr Carvin Choy (alumnus) from Raffles Institution’s Archives and Museum, and Ms Kalimah bte Zainuri (Librarian, United World College of South East Asia, Tampines Branch) attended a two days’ internship programme at the ISEAS Library.
The programme covered Guidelines on Acquisition & Selection; Environmental Control in Managing Collection; Appraisal, Accessioning and Description on documents & papers and Digital Preservation, as well as hands-on session on Describing papers from Ivan Polunin collection; indexing using the Cumulus database on photographs from Southeast Cultural Collection and on papers in the H.S. Lee Collection.
The participants who attended the internship found the professional sharing very useful, especially on processing and accessioning the donated materials in their collections, pointers on digital preservation and the hands-on sessions using the Cumulus database which Raffles Institution have also purchased. The participants felt that they are now better equipped with the knowledge to embark on archiving their own collections and tentatively requested for a refresher course in June 2013.
This professional sharing session is part of the Library's continuous efforts to assist other developing libraries in their training programmes. Please visit the Library's Networking page for more details.
