Member countries of both ASEAN and the EU are confronted with challenges of environmental protection issues that transcend borders. The ASEAN Studies Centre partnered with the Institute for Security and Development Policy (ISDP) of Sweden to bring together scholars and policymakers to discuss the topic of regional cooperation in environmental protection in Europe and Southeast Asia, and what lessons the two regions can learn from each other. With some support from the Riksbanken Jubileumsfond, the two institutes jointly organised a conference on 22-23 February 2010 in Singapore to discuss regional cooperation in environmental protection, and challenges and prospects for the future.
The Conference shared lessons and experiences in addressing environmental cooperation in EU and ASEAN. Topics covered by the conference include:
- environmental governance;
- conserving energy;
- protecting air and water resources;
- protecting biodiversity; and
- implications for regional cooperation.
The conference proceedings and papers will be published as a monograph. A conference report will be available online soon.
